General Where does DBM’s rosewood flooring originate? DBM wood is being harvested from a reservoir basin soon to be flooded to provide hydro-electric power to the country of Laos. The wood is coming out of this area only and being sent to the finishing plant in Thailand.
How long are the boards, given that they are described as Random Length? All of our products come in either a 7' or a 6' nested box. As the flooring is random length, you can expect lengths of 12" to 4' in any one box. There is no set number of specific lengths.
I ordered my flooring 12 months ago. I want to order some more but am concerned the color will not be the same if it is from a different lot. Whether you order your flooring one week apart or one year apart, there will be variation in color and graining. Exposure to light would have caused your pre-existing floor to darken. Your new floor will also darken over a period of time, although it will appear lighter when you initially take it out of the box.
Rosewood What is the different between DBM’s Rosewood products – Preferred Rosewood and Traditional Rosewood? DBM’s Rosewood comes from two different species of tree and therefore will vary primarily by color and grain.
Preferred Rosewood – The most varied in color and grain. Colors range from dark browns to browns to reds, which together add character and depth to the floor.
Traditional Rosewood – The most consistent color and grain pattern, ranging from light to dark browns with a touch of red. Color will change to a dark deeper red/brown color from exposure to any lighting source. Usually takes six to eight months to occur depending on the amount of light.
The Rosewood received is a different color than the sample in the store. Why? All of our Rosewood flooring products are as Mother Nature intended...natural. The color and grain pattern are as they came from the tree. We add no stain or colors in any way. Over a 6 to 8 month period, as your Rosewood flooring is exposed to light, it will become more rich and deeper in color tones and over this time period will settle into colors ranging from Medium Browns to Dark Browns to Reds and combinations thereof.
Finish What kind of finish do your floors have? Our flooring has a durable no-wax surface of multiple hardened aluminum oxide enhanced acrylic UV cured layers.
What’s the difference between a polyurethane and aluminum oxide finish? Basically, a finish containing aluminum oxide is more durable and much harder than the standard polyurethane finish.
Installation Please refer to the DBM Installation Guidelines found in the Information section of our website. For your easy reference, the following are a few of the most frequently asked questions. How do I install DBM wood floors? DBM Hardwood floors can be nailed, stapled, or glued down. Installation is very similar to installing ¾” Oak floors.
Can DBM’s wood flooring be glued down? Yes it can, direct to on-grade or above-grade slabs, plywood and OSB decking using only approved Bostik system products following manufacturer’s guidelines.
Can I glue down directly onto a concrete slab? Yes you can, if the moisture content falls within the given parameters and you follow the adhesive manufacturers’ guidelines using only approved Bostik system products, ie; Bostik MVP and Bostik Best. Please refer to the installation guide for further details.
Care Please refer to our installation guidelines for complete care instructions. We know that our flooring will darken with age and exposure to light. Is there anything special we should be doing during this darkening process? Normal exposure to sunlight will bring about changes in the shading of any hardwood floor as the floor ages. For the first 6-8 months area rugs and other furnishings should be moved occasionally as they block sunlight and may give the appearance of discoloration under the rug. This is not a product defect and is not covered by our Warranty.
What product do you recommend we clean our floor with? We do not have a particular product recommendation. Two products that will work well are: Bruce Hardwood Floor Cleaner, and Minwax Hardwood Floor Cleaner.
